Top Stories: Trump Rallies In Austin; How The Brain Processes Hunger

Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump gives speech during an Aug. 23 rally in Austin.

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump held a rally in Austin last night. Despite telling Fox News host Sean Hannity he was open to a “softening” of laws dealing with undocumented immigrants, Trump renewed calls for building a border wall.

According to the Texas Tribune, Trump’s presidential pitch was interrupted at least a half-dozen times by protestors.

Though Austin is one of the most liberal parts of Texas, the state is reliably Republican. Because of that, political pundits and some Republicans criticized the Texas visit as a waste of time since Trump is behind Hillary Clinton in most of the swing states.

Still, the Republican presidential nominee was productive with his time. He raised about $1 million in a fundraiser yesterday in Fort Worth.

Other stories this morning:

  • The Fort Worth Transportation Authority today will break ground on the upcoming TEXRail line. The project will boost mass transit in Tarrant County and link residents to DFW Airport.
  • A new study out of UT Southwestern Medical Center shows that the brain in severely obese women acts like it’s hungry, even when it’s not.
