The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Four gun measures up for a vote in the U.S. Senate failed last night, including one by Sen. Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas. He proposed a measure preventing gun sales to people on the FBI’s terrorist watch list.
Under Cornyn’s bill, the attorney general would have 72 hours to prove there was probable cause for denying a suspected terrorist the ability to buy a gun.
The Senate could consider another gun measure from Susan Collins of Maine later this week.

- A third lawsuit’s been filed against Baylor University over how it handled sexual assault cases on campus.
- Schools offer meals in the summer to low-income kids, but there’s a problem: Five out of every six kids eligible for the free meals don’t show up, and that’s costing the state money.
- 30 contestants last night advanced to the quarterfinals in the Cliburn Amateur Piano Competition. The field is cut to 12 semifinalists tomorrow.
- Daniel Miller of the Texas Nationalist Movement hopes Britain’s vote whether to stay or leave the European Union could help the case for Texas secession. The idea hasn’t been popular.
