From The Newsroom: A Push Against The '10 Percent Rule'; The Patent Scene In North Texas

The Texas House Higher Education Committee discussed efforts to grow educational programs with University of Texas System Chancellor Bill McRaven on Jan. 20.

The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: The head of the University of Texas system is pushing back against the state's automatic admissions rule for high schoolers who graduate in the top 10 percent of their class.

Chancellor Bill McRaven says the rule hurts UT-Austin’s ability to pick its own student body.

  • Education experts are in Fort Worth this week to talk about how to reduce the number of high school dropouts. High schoolers are graduating at a higher rate than ever before – 82 percent – but experts want to reach 90 percent.
