The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: The winners of the State Fair’s annual Big Tex Choice Awardswent to Fernie’s Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly for ‘Best Tasting’ and the Smoky Bacon Margarita for ‘Most Creative.’

And with the State Fair of Texas around the corner, it’s a good time to talk about saturated fats in this edition of Vital Signs.

Finally, fall means high school football season, and for Allen High School, it has special meaning. The Allen Eagles played its first football game on home turf in more than a year-and-a-half after its multi-million dollar stadium was closed for repairs.
