Coppell is one of the best places to live in the country, according to Money magazine.
The North Texas suburb ranks No. 8 on Money’s annual list of Best Places To Live in America.
This year’s list highlights smaller cities – those with populations between 10,000 and 50,000. (About 40,000 people live in Coppell.)
Money says it considers several factors when compiling these rankings, including job growth, affordable housing, safety, quality schools and health care.
Why Coppell?
Money says: “Coppell has made a virtue of concrete. The ring of freeways that surrounds the town also shields it from Dallas’s sprawl, which means Coppell has been able to carve out a unique identity—no mean feat here—and close-knit community. Ice cream socials, outdoor concerts, and block parties fuel the small-town pride, as does Coppell High School, an academic standout whose sports teams and marching band routinely make the finals of state championships.”
The magazine notes Coppell’s downtown revitalization efforts; an up-and-coming town square; easy access to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport; and jobs.

Coppell has been climbing the Money ranking. In 2013, the city was ranked No. 32 on its list. The median income is $109,127 and the median home price is about $328,000, Money says.
Don’t forget Wylie!
Other Texas cities on the list: Hewitt, just south of Waco, is No. 20 and Wylie in North Texas is No. 25.
Money says that Wylie has a "strong community spirit" and notes the town's location between two lakes. Residents enjoy hiking trails, fishing spots and outdoor concerts, the magazine says.
And Money says Hewitt is one of the safest towns on the list, as well as one of the most affordable.
The top small cities?
Apex, North Carolina, is No. 1 on Money’s list. Papillion, Nebraska is No. 2. Sharon, Massachusetts, is No. 3. Louisville, Colorado, is No. 4. Snoqualmie, Washington, is No. 5.
Last year, McKinney was No. 1
Last year, McKinney ranked No. 1 on Money’s list, which focused on larger cities (between 50,000 and 300,000 people.) The magazine noted the city’s Southern charm, as well as its historic downtown, schools and its ability to attract jobs.
