Dallas residents can now order beer, wine and liquor online and from smartphones -- and have it delivered to their door within an hour. (Or perhaps this evening?)
Goody Goody Liquors has partnered with Drizly, a Boston-based technology startup, to distribute items online and via the free Drizly mobile app.
How does it work?
Dallas customers download the iPhone or Android app, which directs them to a menu of Goody Goody products. They pick out the liquor they want and then Goody Goody employees deliver the goods.
They promise to do it within an hour, although Drizly says it often does it under an hour.
No 24-hour service
The quick delivery time will help more consumers secure last-minute libations before the 8 p.m. cutoff. Goody Goody’s Web sales still have to abide by Texas' brick-and-mortar liquor laws. That means no purchases past 9 p.m. and none at all on Sundays, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Your favorite beer, wine and liquor will have the same in-store price reflected on the app. There's a minimum $20 purchase plus the $5 delivery fee.

21 and older, please
How does Drizly make sure only those 21 and older are ordering? Drizly’s app uses a so-called Forensic ID Verification System. "Our tools allow the store to exercise a more informed decision concerning the legality of a potential consumer," the company says.
Also, the delivery driver makes the final call on whether to leave alcohol with a customer. So, just wait the 20 to 40 minutes for your delivery to hit your doorstep before overindulging. Otherwise, you’d be left without booze and charged a $20 restocking fee, according to Drizly’s blog.
Goody Goody, a 51-year-old liquor chain, and Drizly, the 3-year-old brainchild of two Boston College grads, say the service offers flexibility for consumers to quench their thirst.
Service around the country
Customers can schedule the alcohol deliveries. They can also send products to friends, family and anyone else (well, those 21 or older) that could use a cold one in cities that Drizly serves across the country, including Seattle, New York, Los Angeles and 11 others.
Where in Dallas?
For now, Dallas service is limited. If you’re not concerned with sharing spirits nationally, here are the Dallas neighborhoods Goody Goody will deliver to from its Oak Lawn and Greenville stores:
- Downtown Dallas
- West End
- Deep Ellum
- Oak Lawn
- Uptown
- Knox/Henderson
- Highland Park
- University Park
- Lower Greenville
- Lakewood
- Preston Hollow
- Lake Highlands

No mark-up on prices and cheap or free delivery? Yea, I'll be using this. http://t.co/xH27n70UKd

People want the service to expand to Addison and Plano -- and pronto! Goody Goody says Addison is "definitely next on the list" and that service will soon expand beyond Dallas.
Through June 25, delivery is free on all orders with a promotional code. (Drizly will throw in a locally designed Bullzerk T-shirt, too.)
Goody goody, indeed.
