Before wrapping up this year's legislative session, state lawmakers approved funds for an independent study on the cause of the recent earthquakes in Irving.

The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: The state legislature wrapped up its session yesterday. Before lawmakers went home, they approved $4 million to fund an independent study to investigate the recent earthquakes in Irving. 

Also, we'll meet Desmond Davis in our next installment of the American Graduate series, Homeless In High School. Dez is a runner, wrestler and drum major at North Dallas High School. He's also homeless. Yet, he's not letting his circumstances get in the way of getting his diploma. He'll be crossing the stage this weekend.
