Virgin America---an airline at Dallas Love Field Airport---is challenging Southwest Airlines on cost-efficient flights.

The Love Field airline wars hit a new level today as Virgin America announced it would challenge Southwest on one of the routes that built the low-cost carrier -- Dallas to Austin.

The best news for flyers? $39 fares.

Virgin America is commemorating its Love Field expansion with a “Texas Just Got Smaller” fare sale on all of its Love Field routes, including a rate of $39 to travel directly to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to a press release. The sale runs until midnight on Thursday, Feb. 19.

As KERA's Bill Zeeble reports, this comes a week after Southwest announced five more nonstops from Love Field. With the addition of the new Dallas-to-Austin flights, Virgin America will offer 19 daily departures from Love Field.

The airline made the switch from Dallas-Fort International Airport to Love Field last fall.
