Five stories that have North Texas talking: the FBI is investigating a cyber attack on Cleburne, Sam Wyly gets into more trouble over selling art, gas prices keep falling in North Texas, and more.

The FBI has become involved in an investigation over a cyber attack on servers in Cleburne, a city about 30 miles south of Fort Worth. NBC 5 reports the hackers may have been motivated by a controversial video circulating earlier this month, showing a Cleburne police officer shooting and killing a dog.

The officer was dispatched to a report of three vicious pit bulls and shot one. Cleburne mayor Scott Cain promised a transparent investigation into that shooting. The officer is on paid leave.

As for the cyber attack, hackers are using a denial of service attack on city servers, which prevented city employees from accessing email and shut down the city’s website. Residents also use the website to pay utility bills.

  • Former Dallas billionaire Sam Wyly sold more than $320,000 worth of art in a Christie’s auction without a judge’s approval. Wyly filed for bankruptcy after he lost a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit. SEC lawyers believe the art sale is an attempt by Wyly to liquidate his assets, and according to Bloomberg News, they asked a Manhattan federal court for an immediate asset freeze. Wyly’s lawyer says the art sale was an oversight.

  • To the relief of many North Texans, gas prices keep falling. The average price per gallon in Dallas has fallen to about $2.80 per gallon. Nationally, gas costs around $3.08 per gallon. The Star-Telegram reports the price drop can be attributed to a two factors: crude oil production is up and Americans are driving more fuel-efficient cars as well as driving less.

  • Cooler fall temperatures are on the way. According to the National Weather Service, a strong cold front will move into North Texas late this afternoon. There will be a few isolated storms, but the impact of the cold front will be felt going into the weekend. By Saturday morning, temperatures will fall into the 30s and 40s.
