Country Singer Randy Travis Is Awake, Still In Critical Condition

Doctors for country music star Randy Travis say that his condition is improving after he was hospitalized last week for congestive heart failure and a subsequent stroke.

WFAA reports that Dr. Michael Mack, a cardiac surgeon at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, says that the singer has idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease, but it does not appear that any alcohol or drug use caused the condition. He remains in critical condition.

Dr. Gary Erwin says that Travis is breathing with the help of a ventilator. He will remain in the hospital for another two to three weeks. Dr. Erwin also says it will likely take Travis months to recover from the stroke.
