Governor Rick Perry says it's time to pass on the mantle of leadership and he will not seek reelection next year.

Perry told an audience in San Antonio he will continue to work to create more jobs, opportunity and innovation in Texas, and that he's excited about the future.

Perry says "Texas works" and he called the state the envy of the nation.

He says any future considerations he will decide in due time.  He did not mention another run for the presidency in 2016.
