The North Texas Municipal Water District plans to initiate Stage 3 of its conservation and drought plan June 1st.
Denise Hickey, with the district, says that means once a week watering for all residential and business customers.
“The district is faced with two very substantial events," Hickey said. "One, which is the natural drought, which you have no knowledge of how long that’s going to last; and then the introduction of the introduction of an invasive species and the loss of our supply from Texoma."
Twenty-eight percent of the district’s water supply is cut off because of zebra mussels found in Lake Texoma.
Water levels in Lake Lavon and Lake Chapman are down nearly 8 percent due to lack of rain.
The North Texas Municipal Water District serves 13 cities in Collin and Dallas counties, including Plano, Richardson and Mesquite.
