Dallas, TX – Because The Denton Independent School District has been advised by the Denton County Health Department that a student from Denton High has a suspect case of tuberculosis, the district will test some students on Tuesday.
Denton ISD says it will send permission slips home tomorrow with more than 200 high school students. Those tested are believed to be the ones who might have come in contact with the hospitalized teen.
The simple skin tests will be administered Tuesday. Results will be ready Thursday, when County Health officials will return to Denton High School
EPA Rolls Back Air Rule As Texas Gets Leeway
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to ease new pollution rules that angered several states and infuriated GOP presidential contender Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
The proposed fix to the cross-state pollution rule published today will let 10 states, including Texas, emit more sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. EPA regional administrator Al Armendariz says most of the additional pollution will come from Texas.
Armendariz says the change is being made because the EPA understands it had incorrect data about some utilities, including Luminant in Texas. He says it is not political.
Luminant says the EPA used the wrong data when calculating the standards. It is checking whether the new proposal will allow it to roll back on plans to idle two units and lay off hundreds of employees.
Leaders Of the Big 12 Conference Have Cleared The Way To Make TCU Its 10th Member.
The league announced the decision today and says the Big 12 board had "authorized negotiations" with TCU. The defending Rose Bowl champion agreed earlier this year to leave the Mountain West Conference after this season for the Big East, which has an automatic BCS berth.
But the Big East is on the verge of losing Syracuse and Pittsburgh to another conference. TCU Chancellor Victor Boschini says the Big 12 discussions "have huge implications for TCU" and would allow the school "to return to old rivalries."
The Big 12 lost Nebraska (Big Ten) and Colorado (Pac-12) over the summer and will lose Texas A&M to the SEC next year. Missouri is also exploring options to leave the Big 12, and did not participate in Thursday's vote regarding TCU.
Gasoline Prices Down Seven Cents From Last Week
The AAA Texas weekly survey shows the average prices for a gallon of gas in Texas is $3.20. The least expensive gas in Texas is in Fort Worth, at $3.07 a gallon. The most expensive is in El Paso, at $3.33.
Market analysts say a struggling economy means less demand for crude oil, and that pushes down the price at the pump.
