Dallas, TX –
Supporters of Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price packed St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Dallas Sunday night (7/17/11).
The FBI and IRS in June raided the offices and homes of Price and several of his associates. No one has been charged, so far.
Price attended the rally, but did not speak. Former City Council member Diane Ragsdale said the Commissioner is being targeting because of his political power.
Diane Ragsdale: This investigation is about power. Who has it and who doesn't. Part of the definition of political power is the power held by elected officials. This issue is about power, let us not be confused.
Michael Eric Dyson: Right now I want you to dig in your pockets. I want you to open up your pocket books. I want you to give money. I want you to give cash. I want you to give food stamps. I want you to give whatever you got, right now.
Nationally recognized sociology professor and commentator Michael Eric Dyson asked listeners to contribute to a legal fund to help pay the cost of defending Price and others if they're charged.
Organizers said the rally raised $15,000 in donations.
