Dallas, TX – Some Hispanic Evangelical Ministers are asking Governor Rick Perry to back away from the sanctuary city legislation he's asking Texas lawmakers to pass.
Otherwise, Pastor Lynn Godsey of Ennis says the ministers will help mobilize conservative Hispanic congregations across the country to oppose Perry if he runs for President.
Godsey: We're asking Governor Perry to please stop using these laws for your political agenda sir. You might have aspirations to be President and if that's so that's fine. But please don't come after a race. Don't do it at hurting our families, because you will have to give an account to God.
Godsey is President of the Hispanic Evangelical Alliance of DFW. Last night he briefed some 80 Hispanic ministers and church members about the sanctuary city bill which would require police departments to allow officers to ask people about their immigration status.
Godsey says the legislation will increase racial profiling and harassment of Hispanics.
