Dallas, TX – A college student from Saudi Arabia studying chemical engineering in Texas is accused of plotting to bomb dams, nuclear plants or the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush.
Prosecutors say 20-year-old Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari faces a court appearance tomorrow in Lubbock.
Aldawsari, who lives in Lubbock, was charged today with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
He entered the U.S. in 2008 to study at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He transferred this year to nearby South Plains College.
The feds say the student, in online postings, wrote: "It is war ... until the infidels leave defeated,"
A chemical company, Carolina Biological Supply of Burlington, N.C., on Feb. 1 told the FBI about suspicious purchases by Aldawsari.
Dallas Love Field gets $3M for snow removal
Dallas Love Field is getting more than $3 million for a snow and ice removal system just weeks after bone-chilling winter storms led to canceled flights.
The Dallas City Council on Wednesday approved spending the money. Funding for the project at Love Field, which is home to Southwest Airlines, comes from passenger charges.
Officials say a design for the system has been in the works since 2009 and should be completed next year.
City Manager Mary Suhm says the current snow and ice removal system is operating from an inadequate facility.
Mexican drug gang suspects rounded up
Law officers conducted a massive sweep today in the U.S. and Latin America of suspected Mexican drug cartel members.
The Associated Press quotes a federal official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, that an officer involved in a raid in Houston was shot and wounded -- though the injury is not life-threatening.
The Drug Enforcement Administration says the sweep is a direct reaction to last week's shooting death of Customs and Immigration Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata in Mexico. Zapata was from Brownsville. A suspect has been arrested in Mexico.
Law officers in areas also including Atlanta, St. Louis, Denver, Detroit, San Antonio, San Diego, Chicago, Newark and Miami today seized more than $4.5 million, guns, plus made more than 100 arrests.
Party marks Denton woman's 110th birthday
A North Texas woman had some help celebrating her 110th birthday.
Mary Tankursley of Denton smiled over the birthday colorful cake, decorated with X's and O's, delivered on Monday.
Ann's Haven staff members have been visiting Tankursley since 2007, and she obviously feels close to the nurses, aides and others who've helped provide supportive care.
The widow remained in her Paris, Texas, home until a few years ago, when she moved to Denton to live with her daughter.
Maxine Shadle says her mom still likes to send birthday cards to her family, which now includes eight grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Shadle told the Denton Record-Chronicle that she addresses the cards -- and her mom signs them.
