Dallas Serial Robber Arrested & Nightly Roundup

By Staff Reports

Dallas, TX – Busy Robber Arrested After Tip

Dallas Police say they have solved more than two dozen business robberies with the arrest of 34 year old Robert Louis Jones.

Jones told police he lost his job last year and began robbing businesses in December. He admits to 29 robberies, mainly in the far north Dallas area. Earlier this week, police released surveillance video of a robbery or a T Mobile store on Frankford Road hoping someone would recognize the suspect and call. Some one did, and police made the arrest.

Detectives say in each case Jones presented a "note" and acted as though he had a gun concealed under his clothes.

Voter Fraud Investigation Takes A Detour

The Texas Atttorney General is using a grand jury in Rockwall County in investigate alleged voter fraud in Dallas. The move side-steps Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins' office. The investigation reportedly centers around mail-in ballots during last March's Democratic primary. The Attorney General's office declined to comment publically on the investigation.

Top DISD Official Leaving

A top Dallas School District official is leaving to lead the Technology Department at Houston ISD.

Arnold Viramontes, chief of staff for the Dallas Independent School District, will likely begin his new position in March or early April. He is credited with helping Dallas secure grants to create a data warehouse aimed at boosting student achievement, and create the online Parent Portal, and school scorecards.

His position will apparently go unfilled at the DISD because of the uncertainty of state funding for public education. Dallas Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa says the District will reduce a chief position and begin the complete process of reducing central office positions.
