Dallas, TX – For the second time this month American Airlines and the Association of Professional Fight Attendants have announced the recall of furloughed flight attendants. This time 200 are being recalled. Last week American reenlisted 368.
American's Tim Smith says a growth in international markets has contributed to the need for additional attendants. Smith says the airline has cleared anti-trust hurdles and can now share ticketing and revenue with other carriers.
Smith: We have a lot of things going on in the company now that include our joint business with British Airways and Iberia across the Transatlantic. In April we'll be adding our joint business with Japanese Airlines across the trans-Pacific. And of course we're doing some expansion into China coming up. We have the new Los -Angeles to Shanghai route starting in the spring.
Smith says American will hire up to 30 Mandarin-speaking flight attendants for the Shanghai route.
