Services for Arlington police Officer Jillian Michelle Smith have been set for tomorrow morning at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in Arlington. There's a candle light vigil and wake there tonight.
Smith was killed last week while answering a domestic
disturbance call at an apartment. She was surprised when the ex boyfriend returned, killing her and his former girlfriend in the same apartment. He then shot himself.
Police say Smith died trying to protect the exgirlfriend's 11-year-old
daughter, who was not injured.
Another Imprisoned Man From Dallas Exonerated
51-year-old Cornelius Dupree Jr. spent 30 years in prison for
aggravated robbery, and is now expected to be exonerated as early as tomorrow morning in a Dallas court. Released on parole earlier this year, he'll likely have his conviction set aside after DNA testing proved his innocence.
Dupree was charge with rape and robbery in 1979, & sentenced to 75 years in prison the following year. But he requested a post-conviction DNA test. The DA's office shows Dupree didn't commit the crime, and the Conviction Integrity Unit is now in the process of determining whether there is any biological material that can be tested in the case.
Dupree could be the longest wrongfully convicted inmate in Dallas, and the county's 25th exoneree.
Keller Springs Toll Plaza Set For Demolition Saturday
Lanes on the North Texas tollway around Parker Road in Plano are open again this afternoon.
They were closed during rush hour this morning while the toll road authority demolished a toll plaza. The plaza is no longer needed since the toll road has moved to an all-electronic toll collection system.
The North Texas Tollway Authority's Kim Jackson says drivers should also make note of a weekend closing planned for the Keller Springs area.
Jackson:Next weekend on Saturday and Sunday not on Monday we will demolish the Keller Springs toll plaza. So the road way will be closed for the one and a half mile stretch between Keller Springs and Beltline for the demolish of the Keller Springs toll plaza.
Jackson says the Keller Springs project should not affect next Monday's commute.
