Garland Dismantles Animal Shelter Gas Chamber and Nightly Roundup

Dallas, TX – Garland Dismantled Gas Chamber

After a year of protests, The Garland animal shelter quietly dismantled and removed its gas chamber this week. The Dallas Morning News reports the leader urging the change, Dr John Pippin says the decision proves you can fight city hall. Garland officials haven't yet commented. An investigation revealed the shelter had used carbon monoxide gas on young, sick or old cats and dogs in violation of state law.

Church Arsonists To Plead Guilty

Two men indicted in a string of arson fires set at churches in East Texas say they will plead guilty next week. 20 year old Jason Bourque, and Daniel George McAllister, who's 22, waived, their right to a jury trial during yesterday's hearing in Tyler. They're expected to plead guilty next week. The Tyler Morning Telegraph reported that Bourque's mother hopes people have compassion for her son. He and McAllister were indicted on multiple counts of arson and attempted arson. They were charged in one fire and suspected of setting up to nine others. Nobody was injured.

Dean Food Settles Suit For $30 Million

The attorney for a group of Vermont dairy farmers says the $30 million that Dallas based national dairy processor Dean Foods has agreed to pay to settle a class action lawsuit will help the state's farmers who've been hurting. But Attorney Andrew Manitsky says the details of the settlement cannot be released until it's been approved by a federal court judge, expected next week. Manitsky says the settlement involves "thousands" of northeastern dairy farmers. The original suit alleged Dean and others forced farmers to work with them. In a legal papers, Dean Foods agreed to the payment and other terms and conditions, but offered no other comment
