Dallas, TX – On one of the busiest travel days at one of the nation's busiest airports, the TSA reports no security slow-downs, as protesters had threatened. KERA's Bill Zeeble stopped at DFW International Airport.
Travelers upset by the new, full body scans at several airports wanted passengers to reject it, insisting on the longer, more intrusive pat downs. Protesters wanted to slow the lines to send TSA a message these screenings were ineffective, inefficient, and invasive. But the TSA's Luis Cassanova says DFW security line waits are normal.
Cassanova: It seems to be a non-event. I mean our busiest time was 7 this morning, we didn't go beyond 6 minutes.
Cassanova says travelers just want to safely reach their destinations for the holiday. Passengers like Reagan Lorenzen, said they don't like delays or intrusive scans, but security and safety come first.
Reagan Lorenzen: They're trying to keep us safe, but I think there are probably some things you could do to be a little more accommodating, nicer to people with medical devices and things like that.
DFW operates 3 full-body scanners at 16 check in points. Over the next several weeks, more will be installed.
