Dallas, TX – For the first time in more than 2 years, American Airlines' parent, AMR corporation, says the carrier turned a quarterly profit. KERA's Bill Zeeble says the airline made $143 million in the 3rd quarter.

American Airlines CEO Gerard Arpey says the 3rd quarter of this year saw the carrier's first profit since the 3rd quarter of 2007. A year ago, the airline LOST nearly 360 million dollars.

Arpey added there's much more to do, but results show significant revenue improvement.

The company expects to fly more passengers in the 4th quarter of this year compared to last, and praised partnerships with British Airways & Iberia for increasing its global reach. The company also recently recalled nearly 800 flight attendants and pilots.
