Dallas, TX – Outside an Austin court room today, the ex-wife of convicted, executed killer Cameron Todd Willingham tearfully reiterated her former husband's guilt. KERA's Bill Zeeble reports the controversial hearing has now been postponed.
Stacy Kuykendall was at a court hearing scheduled to clear Willingham of murder because of faulty evidence.
Stacy Kuykendall: Amber would be 21 today, and the twins 19. My ex-husband murdered my daughters and just before he was executed he told me he did it. He stood and watched while their tiny bodies burned.
Willingham publicly proclaimed his innocence, but was executed in 2004. Top arson experts suggest the original investigation was faulty. Some worry Willingham may have been innocent. That would make him the nation's first innocent man put to death.
Today, Judge Charles Baird delayed the hearing until next week. He may recuse himself or consult another judge on whether that's necessary.
Controversy has surrounded the case after Governor Perry removed some members of the state commission looking into the fire investigation.
