Dallas, TX – The ex-FBI agent accused of making death threats against his estranged wife and the head of the Dallas FBI office has been indicted.
Carlos Ortiz Jr. was indicted by a federal grand jury in Dallas on Tuesday on one count of retaliating against a federal official, Robert Casey, the head of the Dallas FBI office.
The second count is possession of firearms by an unlawful user/addict of controlled substances. The FBI says he was addicted to anxiety medication.
Ortiz was arrested at work last month and fired. He is accused of telling a friend that he was going to kill his wife, a bureau analyst, and Casey.
He was denied bond. His father says Ortiz is not violent and blamed his firing and arrest on the estranged wife.
Dallas police: 2 dead in shooting at a home
Police in Dallas say two people have died in a shooting at a home in southern Dallas.
Dallas police spokesman Kevin Janse said the gunman fled the scene of Thursday's shooting on foot and might have entered a vehicle nearby.
Police tell The Dallas Morning News that an earlier report of the gunman firing into a crowd was incorrect.
Police say both victims appear to be in their twenties. One victim was shot in the chest and the other in the neck. Police say drugs were not believed to be a motive in the shooting.
Texas' state fair, nation's largest, opens Friday
Cindy Akers' young daughters are eager to show their lambs at the largest state fair in the nation.
The Texas Tech University agriculture professor couldn't be more proud as the State Fair of Texas prepares to open Friday.
Akers grew up showing sheep at the New Mexico state fair. Her husband showed cattle as a kid at the Texas fair.
It's a way of life that is probably foreign to most who will pass through the fair's gates. But it's one Akers and others say plays an even more important role in the 21st Century as people are so removed from the source of their food.
The fair gives the agriculture industry a way to increase awareness, but fairgoers say the midway, food booths and exhibits are a big part of the fun.
