Top 10 Fugitive Caught In Hurst & Midday Roundup

By KERA News & Wire Services

Dallas, TX – One of the Texas Department of Public Safety's 10 most wanted fugitives has been captured working at an auto dealership in Hurst.

Attorney General Greg Abbott on Monday announced the arrest of 47-year-old Michael Brian McCollum, who was considered armed and dangerous.

McCollum, identified as a gang member, was arrested for violating parole. He also was wanted in Dallas County for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The AG's office says McCollum, who had been sought since 2007, was arrested Friday. DPS says McCollum was arrested several times since the 1980s for assault, aggravated assault, burglary, fraud, possession of a controlled substance, plus DWI.

Arlington Police Crack Down On Convenience Store Gambling

Arlington Police are out with a warning to convenience stores with illegal "eight liner" machines: get rid of them.

Last week, police raided the Texaco Food Mart on East Pioneer, seized 15 thousand dollars cash, and arrested an employee. 30 year old Rezene Haile provided cash payouts for winnings on the eight liner machines. He now faces gambling charges.

The owner of the store also faces criminal charges and is in danger of losing his city certificate of occupancy, his license to sell beer and wine, as well as his Texaco franchise.

It is gambling, and illegal in Texas, to provide "cash payouts" to winners on the eight-liner machines.

Perry, White to speak separately at Houston forum

Gov. Rick Perry and his Democratic gubernatorial opponent Bill White are appearing on the same stage in Houston. But since they won't be there at the same time, it's not for a debate.

White and Perry are both set to speak Monday evening at a political forum hosted by Houston's Arab-American Cultural and Community Center. Perry will be the first to address the forum and take questions from the audience. White will follow about an hour later.

The two candidates couldn't agree to debate after White last week didn't meet a deadline Perry imposed for the former Houston mayor to release tax returns. White said Perry doesn't want to debate him because he's afraid of answering tough questions about his job performance as governor.
