North Texas Gangs Targeted By Immigration & Nightly Roundup

By KERA News & Wire Services

Dallas, TX – More than 100 suspected gang members in North Texas are under arrest after a five day operation targeting trans-national gang activity.

During the raids, federal agents and local police seized money and drugs, including cocaine and hydrocodone.

More than half of the arrests were in Dallas. Others were in Fort Worth, Arlington, Carrollton-Farmers Branch and Irving. Those arrested range in age from 17 to 53. Fifty seven are from Mexico. More than 40 are U.S. citizens. Others are from El Salvador and Honduras.

Blockbuster settles disabilities case

The Justice Department has reached a settlement with Blockbuster Inc. designed to ensure equal access at more than 3,000 Blockbuster retail stores for disabled customers who use service animals.

Federal law requires that disabled people accompanied by a service animal be allowed to go anywhere in a store that other customers go.

Under the agreement announced Monday, Dallas-based Blockbuster must post its service animal policies, provide training to employees, create a toll-free complaint line, monitor a grievance procedure and pay $12,000 in damages to the individual who filed the complaint under the Americans With Disabilities Act. The company also must pay $10,000 as a civil penalty.

Service animals, mostly dogs, help guide blind people, alert the deaf to sounds, help pull wheelchairs and perform other tasks for disabled people.

Dallas Police Officer Arrested

A Dallas Police Officer is facing child pornography charges.

Police say Isac De La Rosa was indicted yesterday by a Dallas County Grand Jury for "promotion of child pornography." The indictment followed an undercover investigation by the Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Squad.

De La Rosa is charged with possessing sexually explicit photographs of children, and making them available to others. He has been on the force for three years, assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division.
