Gunfire At Dallas Bus Stop & Midday Roundup

By KERA News

Dallas, TX – Dallas police sought a suspect after gunfire at a bus stop left one man dead and two people wounded. Sr. Cpl. Gerardo Monreal says police were looking for a woman he described as a "a person of interest" in the altercation reported shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus stop is near Fair Park in south Dallas.

Monreal had no immediate details on conditions of the wounded man and woman, or a possible motive. He says investigators are trying to determine if the victims and the suspect knew each other.

Names of the victims were not immediately released.

Monreal also could not immediately confirm, to The Associated Press, media reports that the man who died had been in a wheelchair.

Texas legislator says hearing Wednesday on Big 12

The chairman of the House Higher Education Committee says a hearing will be held Wednesday on the future of Texas schools in the crumbling Big 12.

Rep. Dan Branch said late Sunday that he is confident the governing boards of the University of Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M will wait until after the legislative hearing before deciding on any possible league changes.

The legislator from Dallas told the Austin American-Statesman that he has spoken, in the past few days, with the presidents of UT, Texas Tech and A&M.

University of Texas system regents plan to meet Tuesday.

Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott went on a come-join-us mission across Texas and Oklahoma over the weekend. Colorado and Nebraskahave already left the Big 12.

Perry in China for economic 'Salute to Texas'

Gov. Rick Perry is on his first trip to China, leading a Texas economic mission to Shanghai World Expo 2010.

Perry spokeswoman Lucy Nashed says the governor and his wife, Anita, arrived Sunday.

Nashed did not have details on when the GOP governor, who is seeking re-election, and his wife will return. Their itinerary also includes Beijing.

Tax dollars are not being spent for the couple's travel or accommodations. A Perry news release says the bills will be paid by TexasOne, a source of economic development marketing funds for the state.

Perry's office says the delegation to the expo, for "Salute to Texas Week" through June 19, includes Comptroller Susan Combs and Secretary of State Hope Andrade.

Perry faces Democrat Bill White in November.
