Dallas, TX – More than four dozen volunteers are at selected Dallas DART stations and bus stops this last week of school, hoping to head off end-of-school fights among students.
Reverend Peter Johnson says this is the third year for the cooperative effort with the school district and Dallas Police.
Johnson: And over the last three years, we've reduced that violence. Last year, we had one fist fight.
Reverend Johnson says the year before a couple of serious gang fights marked the last week for school.
Johnson says most fights happen off-campus, on the way home. That's why volunteers concentrate on DART stations. He says adults, on the scene, talking to the kids can head off potential violence.
Thursday is the last day of school for Dallas students.
