Dallas, TX – Two controversial Dallas County Constables appear in Commissioner's Court this morning. They'll be told to increase their surety bonds, which is like an insurance policy to protect the county. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more.
The request for increased insurance follows an investigation of Constables Jaime Cortes and Derick Evans. The report concludes both abused their power.
The surety bonds that would protect the County if they've done wrong, could rise from $1,500 to half a million dollars or more. Constables must pay for them out of their own pocket.
Neither constable has been charged with any crime, and they deny any wrongdoing.
Their attorneys call the investigation politics. Both constables recently faced re-election. Cortes lost. Evans won.
