Dallas, TX – Texas has reached its renewable energy goal 15 years ahead of schedule, according to the non-profit organization Public Citizen.
Tom Smith, who heads the group in Texas, says the modest goal was reached thanks to wind energy investments that spurred technological innovations and business growth. Smith says the state should build on its success.
Smith: Texas could go much farther by now developing other kinds of renewables like geothermal solar, bio mass all of which we have in abundance here in Texas. We could potentially power all our needs as a the state but also provide 10 percent of energy used in rest of the states
Smith says clean, renewable wind energy provides the least expensive power in a state with some of the nation's highest utility bills. He expects legislators to push other energy alternatives like bio-mass in the next session.
