Dallas, TX – The Dallas Catholic Diocese now has 2 extra Bishops to help Bishop Farrell with the growing Catholic population. Pope Benedict named them today from the Vatican. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more
Vicar-General in the Dallas Diocese, Reverend J. Douglas Deshotel, is one of the Bishops-elect. He's been 2nd to Bishop Farrell since 2008. Monsignor Mark Seitz, pastor at St. Rita's Church in Dallas, is the other.
Dallas Bishop Farrell expressed gratitude to the Pope for the auxiliary bishops. He says 20 years ago, there were 200,000 Catholics here. Now there are more than 1.2 million.
Farrell: And the Diocese continues to grow at a tremendous pace very year. 153 For an effective ministry to the community I obviously need some help.
Both bishops-elect have served in Dallas more than 30 years. They will be ordained April 27th.
