Dallas, TX –

Former Dallas Council Member Mattie Nash has died at age 87. She was called "Mama" Nash, and often referred to as the "Mayor of West Dallas."

Former City Council member Diane Ragsdale says that was because of her passion to take care of her neighborhood.

Ragsdale: Affordable housing was one of her issues; for low to moderate income families. She always wanted every human being to have affordable, decent housing. She considered that not a privilege, but a right, a human right.

Mattie Nash served on the city council from 1991 to 1993. She was also a member of the Dallas Housing Authority Board, and has a Dallas Recreation Center named for her.
