Dallas, TX –
Democrats across Texas are hoping the entry of Houston Mayor Bill White into the governor's race will help revitalize the party in statewide races. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more
Dallas County Democratic Party chair Darlene Ewing says Bill White's entry into the governor s race could benefit from the many new Democrats who joined when Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton sought the presidency.
She says White also has what the other Democratic gubernatorial candidates lack.
Ewing: I think he has money and the ability to raise money, and the party infrastructure and set-up. And he's already set up because be was going to run for the Senate. I think the combination is something he brings to the table that the others have a piece of but not completely together.
Ewing acknowledges White lacks the charisma of President Obama, but he's smart, savvy and persuasive. She says he'll excite Democrats because the party faithful see him as someone who can beat whichever Republican he faces.
