Dallas, TX –

Houston Mayor Bill White is running for Governor in the Democratic primary. White made the announcement this afternoon.

White: I know I don't have the polish or the fame of the career politicians who've been running for office in this state for 30 years. I know that. But as a business person and as the mayor of this state's largest city, I do know who to bring people together to get things done. I do know the difference.

White's announcement prompted East Texas Rancher Hank Gilbert to bow out of the governor's race, and file for Agriculture Commissioner instead. Gilbert has endorsed Houston businessman Farouk Shami in the Democratic primary. Also in the race, Texas humorist Kinky Friedman and teacher Felix Alvarado.
