Dallas, TX –
Texas Governor Rick Perry praised voter approval of constitutional amendment number 4. It moves millions of dollars into a fund to create more top-tier universities. KERA's Bill Zeeble reports.
Perry addressed business executives in Dallas Wednesday and said Texas needs more world class universities, because the state's employers need their graduates. He said voters did the right thing when they ok'd an amendment that shifts more than half a billion dollars from a dormant education fund to one that state universities can use to build a national reputation.
Perry: This will affect number of universities in this area. UT Dallas, UT Arlington, the University of North Texas. And Yesterday Texas voters threw their support behind that effort and took the next step required to move Texas towards being at the top of that list of great universities in America by approving proposition 4.
Perry said the key to the state's future is to build on its economic success, even in the current recession.
