Dallas, TX –
The numbers are in, and airline traffic rose in September for Southwest Airlines. That could mean improved options for passengers. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more.
Southwest traffic jumped 9 percent in September compared to a year ago. It's planes were as full as they've ever been, setting a company record. Southwest also flew fewer planes on fewer routes. Marilee McInnis, with Southwest, says a big fare sale after Labor Day helped the bottom line. In turn, she said, that's good for customers.
McInnis: We're making sure flights we provide are where people want to go and are profitable.
September traffic for American Airlines were down, but each plane was fuller, on average. That could spell a better profit picture for the world's number 2 airline.
