Dallas, TX –
Counselors are preparing to help traumatized Tyler high school students tomorrow following the fatal stabbing of a special education teacher.
During a press conference posted on television station KYTX's website, Superintendent Randy Reid said the incident took place just before 9am today at John Tyler High School. 52-year old Todd Henry was in a classroom with an assistant teacher and three students. Reid said that's when one of the students reportedly assaulted Henry.
Reid: One student approached the teacher and assaulted the teacher with an edged weapon. The student was immediately subdued by the paraprofessional and escorted out of the room and into the hallway and turned over to Tyler ISD Police officers who were nearby.
Colleagues say Henry was a talented music therapist who worked with special needs students. Shortly after the stabbing the high school dismissed classes for the day, but Tyler high school will resume regular classes tomorrow.
