The Federal Communications Commission has finalized the transfer of the non-commercial radio license 91.7 FM to KERA. That means we can now announce the name of our new music station and its launch date. Shelley Kofler has details on KKXT's on-air debut.
Mark this date on your calendar: November 9. And this time: 7 a.m. That's when KERA's public music station goes airborne, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The first program you'll hear will be the KXT Morning Show. Jeff Ramirez, Vice President of Radio, says it will feature the new station's signature format known as Triple A.

"KXT's format will be a wide and diverse range of music," said Ramirez. "You'll hear acoustic music, folk music, singer-song writers, alternative, independent country, rock pop music world music."
On weekdays, KXT Morning, Afternoon and Evening shows will broadcast up to eleven hours of locally hosted music programming. KXT Weekend will provide more of the same on Saturdays and Sundays. Fans who listen to Paul Slavens on KERA will find his show on KXT on Sundays.
Ramirez says Texas artists will be featured throughout the schedule and highlighted on a Friday program, Texas Mix.
"Every Friday in the middle of the day we'll be emphasizing music by artists and musicians based here in Texas or who are from Texas. We also look forward to some really cool, live in-studio performances," said Ramirez.
