Dallas, TX –

DART is running "test trains" on the new Green Line tracks between the Martin Luther King station and Victory, at the American Airlines Center. That newest segment of light rail begins passenger services in two weeks.

Fair Park neighborhood activist Willie Mae Coleman was part of the design team for the M-L-K station. She has high hopes for light rail and neighborhood development.

Coleman: We are just a lost community. We have no good things that other communities have. And this is a good thing. Maybe this will draw some more jobs, companies, stores coming, shopping centers. We just need all the good things over here. We're good people, too.

The station features two huge African drum sculptures and the neighborhood's history told in large photographs by legendary, South Dallas photographer R.C. Hickman.

Coleman was part of a group who got a "preview" ride on the Green Line Tuesday morning.
