Bridge Demolition to Close Central Lanes This Week

Dallas, TX –

The Central Expressway commute in Collin County could see delays this week. The main lanes and frontage roads at Parker Road will be alternately closed "overnight" this week. KERA's BJ Austin says the work begins tomorrow night - weather permitting.

The Parker Road overpass is being demolished. During the nighttime hours, crews will use jackhammers and a device that works like a pair of giant scissors to take down the aging bridge in four parts. Mark Pettit, with the Texas Department of Transportation, says they're trying to be very mindful of commuters.

Pettit: During the day, they won't see anything except that the bridge is coming down piece by piece as they go thru the week. The demolition will all take place during the evenings between about 10:30 and five am.

First to close: the northbound lanes, then Central southbound at Parker will be closed; then the southbound frontage road, followed by the northbound frontage. The work is part of a 20 million dollar makeover of the interchange.
