Gov. Perry Signs Tax Bill & Nightly Roundup

Dallas, TX –

A bill extending a tax exemption to Texas business owners making up to $1 million in annual revenue takes effect Jan. 1. Gov. Rick Perry today was in Houston, at a ladder company, to sign the bill. About 40,000 small businesses are expected to benefit from the plan.

Swine Flu Deaths

Texas has more deaths blamed on swine flu. Authorities say the two Hidalgo County residents -- a teenage boy and a woman -- died this month from swine flu.

Police Searching For Houston Man

A warrant has been issued for a 25-year-old man accused of throwing gasoline on his girlfriend in Houston and starting her on fire. She's in critical condition with burns over 70 percent of her body. Houston police are looking for Uriel Vargas Alvarado. He's charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.

Blaze Kills Two Wichita County Residents

A house fire near Electra has killed two people and sent two others to a Dallas hospital. Officials have identified the couple who died as 42-year-old Joe Bob Gilbert and 40-year-old Kristy Hoffman. The Wichita County sheriff's department says it appears the blaze started with smoking materials.
