Texas Gas Prices Rise & The News Roundup

Dallas, TX – Dig deeper into your wallet to fill up at the gasoline pump this week in Texas. Triple-A Texas today reports the average cost per gallon jumped 11 cents -- reaching $2.44. The association blames rising oil and wholesale gasoline prices for the spike in retail costs.

A judge in Paris today dismissed murder charges against two men accused in the September dragging death of a friend. A special prosecutor recommended dropping the case, freeing Shannon Finley and Charles Crostley -- who are white. A gravel truck driver last month acknowledged he might have accidentally run over Brandon McClelland -- who's black.

A pledge signed today in Dallas by leaders of the League of United Latin American Citizens and the NAACP is meant to keep them working together. The document helped celebrated the Hispanic advocacy group's 80th anniversary. LULAC was founded in Corpus Christi.

The spring TAKS results are in -- and 93 percent of third-grade students passed the reading exam. It means the majority of third-graders will advance to the fourth grade because of results of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. Youngsters who failed can retake the test this summer.
