Dallas, TX – Tarrant County now has the most confirmed swine flu cases in Texas at 22. KERA's BJ Austin says even as North Texas numbers increase, one health department is relaxing the rules on reporting flu cases.
Tarrant County's 22 confirmed cases of swine flu is not a surprise to health officials. Vanessa Joseph, with Tarrant County Public Health, says followed by a batch of tests came back from the Centers for Disease Control that bumped up their number significantly. Dallas County reports 15 confirmed cases; Collin County 3; Denton County, 2.
Dallas County Health officials say H1N1 infections are widely distributed and will likely continue to circulate for some time. But symptoms resemble typical seasonal flu. County health officials say doctors need only report the most serious flu cases now, with hospitalizations, respiratory disease due to flu, or institutional outbreaks of the flu.
