Dallas, TX – Twice as many people spoke AGAINST a daytime juvenile curfew in Dallas than spoke FOR it at City Hall yesterday.
Mark McCollum is against it: Carl Raines is for it.
McCollum: The proposed daytime curfew at its worst would cause a child running late for school to have a criminal record.
Raines: We've really got to get serious about the crime issues and everything else that's going on in the city of Dallas. And this is just one more tool.
The 9am to 2:30 pm curfew would apply on school days, and affect children ages 10 to 16. Council members say it will help fight crime. The fine for a curfew violation would be 500 dollars. The Council takes a final vote next month.
