Dallas, TX – There's a deal to continue construction on the "designer" Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge across the Trinity River in Dallas.
Mayor Tom Leppert met yesterday in Washington with the Corps of Engineers and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. The "Corps" has now extended the "permit" for the bridge to be built within the levees and the floodway. That allows construction to resume after the Dallas levees failed the latest Corps safety inspection.
Mayor Leppert says "slurry walls" will likely have to be placed around the bridge pylons to ensure levee integrity.
Meanwhile, the steel arch for the Santiago Calatrava signature bridge has arrived at the Port of Houston from Italy and will soon be in Dallas.
