Dallas, TX – State lawmakers monitoring stimulus money for Texas will hold a public hearing in Arlington tomorrow.
The hearing will be the first outside Austin for state representatives on the federal stabilization funding committee. Committee members are taking testimony and making recommendations on how Texans should use nearly $17 billion coming from Washington. There are literally hundreds of pots of money earmarked for everything from public education, to home weatherization and renewable energy development. Sending of the stimulus money has already provoked controversy. Some lawmakers don't like the way the Texas Department of Transportation has divvied up $1.2 billion, earmarking most for toll roads. And Governor Perry's rejection of $555 million for unemployment insurance has sparked a backlash at the capitol.
Saturday's day-long hearing, is open to the public.
