Dallas, TX – Dallas Police get a good grade "overall" in a Public Trust and Confidence Survey. Rob Davis, with the Rand Corporation, says 80% of those surveyed believe Dallas police are effective crime fighters. But one-third said response time is bad.
Police Chief David Kunkle says they're fixing that.
Kunkle: On priority one, or emergency calls, we've been running about 6 minutes on urgent calls. When I got here on urgent calls we were over 20 minutes. And on priority three and four calls, we were running over an hour. Now we're running about 20 minutes.
Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia wants the Chief to work on the Department's image in predominantly minority neighborhoods - where there is more distrust of police.
This is the first "annual" Public Trust and Confidence Survey funded by the new Caruth Police Institute. Its mission is to develop leadership and identify "best practices" for police.
