Dallas, TX –
Today is "Go Purple Day" in Fort Worth the final one of the college football season. KERA's BJ Austin says Mayor Mike Moncrief wants to see the entire city decked out in purple, showing support for the TCU Horned Frogs who play in the Fiesta Bowl tonight.
On the verge of an undefeated TCU season, Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief began proclaiming Go Purple Days. One the eve of the final game for a never-before, undefeated, 12-0 season, the Mayor ordered the Trinity River dyed purple.
The city's Jason Lamers expects to see storefronts, office workers, city employees, hi-rise buildings everyone decked out in TCU Purple today.
Lamers: And I think the citizens are really excited about how this team has done, and basically showing how special Fort Worth is to the rest of the country.
In Arizona with the Frogs, TCU's Mark Cohen says that kind of support has really fired up the team.
Cohen: You know, you drive through town and see the banners hanging on restaurants and buildings: Go Frogs, Congratulations on the Mountain West Championship. You know it's something that I'm looking to put a price tag on, just what that means to the guys; just to see the support that people recognize what they've done this year.
Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief has made a friendly wager with Boise's mayor. The loser has to wear the winning team's jersey at his next city council meeting. Both teams are undefeated. TCU beat Boise State by ONE point in last year's Poinsettia Bowl.
