Dallas, TX – The city of Dallas has launched a campaign to recycle old analog TV's. KERA's BJ Austin says it's aimed at consumers who are getting NEW TV's as the nation makes the switch to digital - planned for February 17th.

The campaign is called Stop Drop and Go. At the kickoff at Reunion Arena Mary Nix, director of Dallas Sanitation Services says the early response proves there is a demand for proper disposal of old, analog TV's. Nix: We're looking at several hundred television sets that are all packed up here at Reunion -- hundreds of television sets from people who already knew about Stop, Drop and Go. Nix adds that tossing a TV to curb for "bulky trash" pickup is ILLEGAL because of the hazardous materials inside. She says the owner COULD be cited for illegal dumping. The TV recycling campaign runs thru March 31st at the McCommas landfill and the three city sanitation "Transfer Stations."
