Dallas, TX – The General Motors plant in Arlington has reopened after a four-week shut down. KERA's Shelley Kofler reports there is some good news for the automaker which has discussed bankruptcy.

On Tuesday the 2400 workers at Arlington's GM plant went back on the assembly line. The company's only full-sized SUV manufacturer resumed full- production. Most of GM's plants shut down temporarily in December to save money and reduce the number of unsold vehicles.

GM Spokesperson Wendy Sabo says the good news this week is that SUV's are sitting on sales lots for fewer days.

Sabo: For example, we have the GMC Yukon. It's about 82 days on average on hand. At one point we were in the 200's. Obviously it's a big improvement.

GM has received two federal emergency loans of more than $9-billion dollars to help the automaker get back on its feet. Next month the company must give Washington a detailed plan explaining how it will repay the loan and become competitive.
